  • Dylann Roof Went to Another AME Church after the Charleston Shooting: Report

Dylann Roof, the man who killed nine people at a historically black church in 2015, drove by another church on the night of the shooting, according to newly released court documents.

After the attack on June 17, 2015 that left 9 black worshipers dead, Roof left Emanuel AME Church and traveled west to the Branch AME Church, according to WCIV, which cited Global Positioning System data that was not presented in court during his trial. His GPS device deactivated for approximately two to three minutes, which is consistent with stopping the vehicle, according to prosecutors.

Bruck added, "Now that the prosecution's discarded theory has been made public, the government should reassure the public and the people of Branch AME Church that Roof posed no particularized threat to that congregation".

Roof carried out his attack at Emanuel AME Church on Wednesday night, June 17, 2015.

"I would hate to know what the outcome would be".

The Reverend Rufus Berry, the Branch AME pastor, said that he was shocked to hear that his church, which has 70 members, was also targeted. "I thank God that he had us protected" from a second attack, he said.

Roof's defense attorneys sought to exclude the Global Positioning System data along with two photographs of the Branch AME Church from trial.

During the trial, the prosecutors presented evidence that Roof possessed a list of other black churches when he was arrested.

In his Federal Bureau of Investigation interview after his arrest, Roof told police he was too exhausted after his Emanuel massacre to keep shooting. Investigators found lists of predominantly black churches in Roof's auto after his arrest, but Branch AME was not included on those lists.

In December, a jury convicted Roof of 33 federal charges for killing nine Bible study goers in cold blood as they prayed. No date has been set for his trial, which had been indefinitely postponed during the federal proceedings.
