  • With fake news on rise Czech unit targets Russia

In an opinion piece in the daily Le Monde on Tuesday headlined "Russia must not be allowed to destabilise the French presidential election", the secretary-general of Macron's movement En Marche (On The Move) accused RT and Sputnik of fanning the "slanderous" claims.

In the last election in 2012, she won less than six percent of the votes cast in French Polynesia.

Mr Macron is a staunch pro-European and it is widely thought he is likely to have been targeted because he wants a strong Europe that could stand up to Moscow, . "That's why we are suffering from attacks from several information sites belonging to the Russian state".

Russian newspaper Izvestia has also reported comments from Wikileaks founder Julian Assange who said his organization had "interesting information" about Macron.

The source gave no date for this meeting though the satirical weekly le Canard Enchaine said on Tuesday that it had been fixed for late next week.

"That there is a hysterical anti-(President Vladimir) Putin campaign in certain countries overseas is an obvious fact".

Marine Le Pen, the leader of France's far-right National Front party, said she favored making it illegal to be a dual citizen of France and other countries outside Europe - including Israel and the United States.

However, the estate sued the company past year , claiming that only his latest album "HitNRun Phase" was included in the deal. Prince signed with Warner Bros. nearly 40 years ago and recorded his most influential and popular albums for the label.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, France's defense minister, said last week French intelligence agencies were attempting to fortify cybersecurity surrounding the election.

"If these attacks succeeded, the campaign of En Marche would become extremely hard, if not impossible", Ferrand said in Le Monde online.

Calling for government action to prevent foreign meddling in the election campaigning, Ferrand said: "What we want is for authorities at the highest level to take the matter in hand to guarantee that there is no foreign meddling in our democracy". But he is still ahead of third-place Francois Fillon (Republican), and thus will make it through to the second-round runoff between the top two candidates, the poll suggests.

Russian Federation has denied the smear campaign.

Fillon's campaign has been hit by probes into allegations of fake work carried out by Fillon's wife.

Rumours about Macron's private life had grown louder in recent weeks, in tandem with his poll surge.
