"First static fire test of Falcon 9 at historic launch complex 39A completed in advance of Dragon's upcoming mission to the space station", SpaceX tweeted Sunday.

According to the California-based company, Falcon 9 will blast robotic Dragon cargo capsule, carrying cargo and science experiments toward the International Space Station.

This marks the first time any rocket has stood on pad 39A and fired its engines since the retirement of NASA's Space Shuttles in July 2011 on the STS-135 mission to the space station. This is a historic event and one that has many Space X staff honoured by the opportunity, as the Cape Canaveral launch complex was where the original 1969 Saturn V launch took place, sending man to the moon for the first time. "We are honored to be allowed to use it".

It is common for Falcon 9 rockets to undergo such static firings before a planned launch to test all ground and flight systems.

However, the estate sued the company past year , claiming that only his latest album "HitNRun Phase" was included in the deal. Prince signed with Warner Bros. nearly 40 years ago and recorded his most influential and popular albums for the label.

"That is a big deal".

Since shutting down its space shuttle program, NASA has relied on the Russian space fleet and, increasingly, on the private space industry to step in to fill the void in space exploration and to make it more affordable. So far, it has been used to deliver cargo to the ISS. SpaceX also has a launch facility at Space Launch Complex 4E at Vandenberg Air Force Base, near Los Angeles.

And SpaceX may soon be ready to continue its recovery from a rocket explosion last September by resuming launches from Florida.

"Given the delays in initiating a United States capacity to transport crew to the ISS, NASA has extended its contract with the Russian Space Agency for astronaut transportation through 2018 at an additional cost of $490 million", wrote NASA's Office of Inspector General in a September audit. Over the past few days, launch teams also tested the pad equipment, raised and lowered the rocket and conducted fit checks of the rocket at the pad. Some renovations to the site had to be completed to support flights of the company's rockets, as can be read on Space.com.
