  • Did Donald Trump play his first round of golf as president?

The two will play golf at Trump's private club there.

When asked whether Abe is a good golfer or if he would have a bet on the game, the president said the Japanese prime minister "loves the game".

Japan's Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will visit President Donald Trump in Washington later this week with the ink of details of his country's rising trade surplus barely dry as the pair head to the golf course for what could be a crucial series of talks on security and the economy.

"If we get along with Russian Federation and other countries - I mean, I want to get along with all countries - but if we got along with Russian Federation, if we got along with China, if we got along with Japan ... that's a good thing, not a bad thing".

The president spoke by phone with Abe last month about the future of U.S. -Japan relations and agreed to meet in Washington, The Hill reported.

"(We) want this trip to be an opportunity for (the leaders) to hold a frank exchange of views and display to the world that the Japan-U.S. alliance is unwavering", Suga, the top government spokesman, said.

Mr Trump has been calling his Florida resort the "Winter White House", and Press Secretary Sean Spicer said Mr Abe's trip there is a testament to the close relationship between the United States and Japan. "I'm just going to make sure he's my partner".

He even praised Japan as "a model" among USA allies in sharing costs for US forces stationed overseas.
