An agency of the USA government has said it will allow the $3.8bn North Dakota Access Pipeline to carry oil beneath the Missouri River close to the site of indigenous American community - a move previously blocked after huge protests.

Environmentalists and members of the Standing Rock, one of the Indian American tribes opposing the multi-state project, believe the DAPL could trample tribal artifacts and potentially poison waterways. In December, the US Army Corps of Engineers chose to halt final-stage construction of the pipeline because of environmental concerns.

John Hoeven, R-N.D., said that the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers intends to grant the disputed easement for the Dakota Access pipeline.

The easement allows Energy Transfer to build the line under federally owned Lake Oahe in North Dakota.

After taking office, President Donald Trump signed executive actions that aimed to curb these type of reviews and sought to lift projects that were once stopped or delayed under former President Barack Obama.

The Standing Rock Sioux have fought the project for months, arguing it threatens the water source for their reservation, disturbs sacred ground and violates a 19th century treaty with the federal government.

Split director hints sequel
Before Split's theatrical release, Shyamalan told EW he hoped to make a third film set in this cinematic universe. Combined with an estimated $44 million internationally, Split's worldwide total now stands at $142.7 million.

On Jan. 18, the corps began collecting public comment for a full environmental impact statement regarding the pipeline easement.

When complete, the pipeline would bring oil and gas from the Bakken Shale to IL, where it would link up to other pipelines.

Once the Army Corps review process is complete, a final decision will be made and the Army Corps will notify Congress as required, according to Marinelli.

Attorneys for the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe said that if the easement is granted, they would quickly go to court to stop it. The company has said it is safe.

The Obama administration then called for a halt on construction and a more thorough environmental review.
