Queen Elizabeth II marks 65 years on Britain's throne

The 90-year-old queen marked the occasion as she has almost every year on Accession Day, privately at her Sandringham country estate in Norfolk, England, about 110 miles north of London. Westminster Abbey marked the day with a series of bells, and the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery fired a 41-gun salute in London.
According to the office, the Queen will spend the day at her residence in Sandringham, eastern England.
It's 65 years since she became Queen following the death of her father King George the Sixth.
She will become the only British monarch ever to celebrate her Sapphire Jubilee. While a "heavy cold" sidelined her briefly at Christmas, she continues to fulfill engagements around the country, attending many more events than some of the younger royals.

While Queen Elizabeth loathes attention, the nation will mark her achievement nonetheless. Queen Elizabeth has been the oldest monarch in the world since the 2015 death of Saudi Arabia's King Abdullah, who died at age 90.
