Facebook News Feed Tweaked to Show More Authentic, Timely Stories

According to a report in The Next Web on Wednesday, Facebook's new signals tap one of its core values - authentic communication - to bring stories to your News Feed that have a higher chance of resonating, and not those considered "misleading, sensational, or spammy".
Facebook is changing the way it ranks stories in the News Feed. If a post asks for likes, comments and shares, or hides the posts from the timeline, Facebook identifies these pages for posting less authentic content. In a joint announcement made by members on its engineering and research science teams, new signals will determine how visible Facebook updates are going to be in the News Feed. They also leverage user behavior; if posts are hidden by the user, Facebook considers the Page's contents to be unauthentic.
To do this, we categorised Pages to identify whether or not they were posting spam or trying to game feed by doing things like asking for likes, comments or shares. And if those same people are willing to block or unfriend people they disagree with, then they will likely do the same for news stories they disagree with, regardless of the authenticity of the content.
Facebook uses real-time metrics in order to figure out which post to serve you first. The social network is adding and updating signals to its ranking algorithm. The other change is to give higher priority to current discussions or hot topics, and show posts that are more timely.
As a result of the changes, "authentic" content could rank higher in your feed.
The company maintains that Pages on Facebook won't face any major issues due to the tweak in News Feed algorithm - some pages might see a minor increase in engagement and click through rates to their posts while others might witness a slight decrease.
